    why does everyone hate vista?

I have heard so many people bashing vista over alot of forums, and only recently installed it myself i found it was faster than xp to install and generally much more pleasant to look at. (granted on a fast machine, and granted it takes 1gb or over of ram just to run the aero theme constantly)

so why? i would like to know your personal experiences with vista and why u hate it!

your problems/comments about vista should only directly relate to vista and its own issues, not issues of other drivers/technical mistakes... and not of the price as we all know its overpriced.

I would especially like to know what it has done for your gaming habbits,
I personally have found it in some cases to increase my fps on several games.. maybe due to having a dx10 card..

has it stopped you or slowed u down playing your fav game?
and why do people say vista and gaming is a no-no?

    Thanks in advance!

Remember that those that complain are a self selecting group - there are probably many more who have installed Vista without problems.

Those that do have problems seem to be related to driver problems for less than mainstream hardware.

New OSA's tend to have undiscovered bugs (I think its a good idea to wait until the first SP before installing a new version of Windows )

Vista was hyped up so that any failure to live up to expectations will be met with disappointment.

The hardware specs for Vista are high - those attempting to run it on sub-optimal hardware will probably experience some difficulties.

MS seem to have clamped down on the authrrisation requirements/conditions for Vista. (One of the reasons I didn't upgrade to XP from Win2K - I didn't agree with having to re-register every time I changed something - although as time has gone on, that doesn't seem to have been so much of a problem as wasa originally anticipated as MS diluted the conditions in the face of adverse criticism! - ie from vcorporate users!)

I have installed vista on 3 computers now without a hitch and really like it. What I don't like is bad driver support. I am sure this will improve in time though.

It looks like a lot of people dislike Vista because most of them time, when Vista works for people, they won't make a whole new thread/website saying how much they like it...

The people who don't like Vista for whatever reason (probably because they're trying to use it on a very old computer) will probably make multiple threads and posts saying how bad it is/trying to get it sorted out.

I had my £10 upgrade of Vista Business on my main PC for a few days but driver support was against it so I'm back on XP for the time being.

I've got another (lower specced) PC with Vista pre-installed on it and everything works fine. There are things I like about it and things I don't, same with every other O/S I think.

Much the same as me. There are a few niggling little bugs I found, like icons not appearing properly on the start menu or older software installers not being able to create start menu groups, but on the whole I do like it.

I also found you can do a repair installation, they just called it upgrade instead In other words, you perform an upgrade install on your current vista install and it replaces all the windows files, without blatting your existing build.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

I personally found Vista a real let down after all the hype. I've never managed to put my finger on it but Vista didn't seem "right" some how. I know I hated the cheap looking Start menu as well as feeling that everything looked a lot more cluttered. In fact I was so put off by it that I switched to Ubuntu and have never looked back.

Vista is not the great leap forward that everyone thought it would be. It is also requires a decent amount of ram to run on. I wouldn't use less than 2Gb for it therefore alot of people have issues with laptops and prebuilt machines expecting to get all the wizzbang graphics. It also has poor driver support so alot of peoples peripherals don't work. This doesn't mean it's rubbish it just means you have to do some research before paying the £££ and installing.

The only reason I can see atm for going from xp to vista is Directx 10 for gaming. Therefore I've not "upgraded" and I can't hate something unless I've tried it. I expect at some point I will go for it when i build a new machine but only if it has real world benefits.

Aside from flashy graphics can anyone that does use it give me any more advantages vista has over xp?

Other than the obvious DRM voodoo concerns, I think Vista is the best operating system Microsoft has released to date. Vista has a huge load of improvements.

I dont hate it, I have it on my work machine and for that its fine, software supports a bit slow as are drivers but thats hardly MS's fault.

But as with any MS OS I wont be putting it on my personal home machine until SP1....

Its the updates that have been killing my vistas to death.

After the updates, I have slug like speed from iex7 and windows mail, on both x64 and x86 versions on the main pc and a laptop, neither of which are running the same software or hardware.
