Vista 64bit -> 32bit

Just installed vista 64 but i cant install my wireless modem, a belkin. Found a driver whch supports 32bit, but doesnt work with 64bit.

How do i go about downgrading to 32bit? If i do, how easy is it 2 reverse back up to 64bit in the [near-ish] future? Would it require a full reformat?

I went from 32 to 64 without a hitch, but not sure about the other way and then back again.

How did you go about doing it? Stick the vista disc in & it gave you an option of upgrading?

Also, was it a 32bit disc originally? Or was it a 64bit disc and you opted for the 32bit version?

and finally...how are you finding the 64bit vista & drivers in general, is it hard to come by them? Basically, do you think its worth me sticking with the 64bit for now & finding a wireless stick thats combatible, or just downgrading to the 32bit for the time being?

and to be honest, chaing operating systems at that level its better to be a clean install.

I would always recommend a clean install against any sort of upgrade/downgrade - not that u can downgrade anyway.

Drivers for x64 os's have always been hard to come buy, by far the best thing to do, is buy known compatible hardware. If you already have all ur kit, and MUST keep it, its either a waiting game or hardware upgrade/replacement.

I *touch wood* have so far had no issues with vista x64, and have gbeen using it since first release.

look on the compatability list. Go to scan, or the ebuyer website. A lot of them list vista compatability.

Or just check the main brands website, then hunt for a retailer that sells them.

I have been fine with Vista 64 but all my hardware on that build was new

Only issue for me is some older cpu apps like coretemp and TAT don't work

all these people saying "works fine for me" is fine, but its if it works fine for the person asking the question so they will have to check their hardware and software is compatible.

no ammount "I've had no problems" will make it work for HIM.

how did u do the upgrade ?

DVD burned (with nero) but won't install.

rebooting doesn't start windows setup.

and running setup from 32 gives error

"The version of this file is not compatable with the version of windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need x86(32 bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program and then contact software publisher."


any suggestions?

edit: I got it working. silly me the HDD was set to 1st boot device and DVD was 2nd, swapped them around and it worked like a charm.

Abit AirPace PCI-X, works a treat. 32 and 64 bit... also a wi-fi AP if required. Cheap too.
