    Ok option 1, this:

    http://gparted.free.fr/screenshots/V...ove_VISTA.html

Read through though first.. (eek) Not sure about RAID perhaps some of the linux folk on here could comment?

Option 2: (based on a previous comment, jonathan_phang)

    http://vistarewired.com/2007/04/07/h...t-doesnt-work/

As far as I can tell Acronis don't yet support your hardware directly - although i'm slightly baffled as to why you can just do it from windows itself
The boot CD is basically just linux but you can't (AFAIK) add drivers to it and Acronis don't support the Windows PE environment for Disk Director (they do for True Image) which is why I asked about the XP CD.

Option 2 doesnt work, it always says the size I try to shrink it with (100Gb or 10Gb) is to big.

Re: Partitioning in Vista (Acronis, Disk manager)

Well I guess it makes sense - the unmovable files stopping you resizing past a certain point n'all that but I wish the Vista team had made it boot-time too (avoiding the whole issue). I'd also try all the steps they list in that linky and trying doing the resize itself from safe mode to minimize locked files etc. Don't forget to pester Acronis for better RAID support nonetheless.

Re: Partitioning in Vista (Acronis, Disk manager)

I wanted to, but the problem there is my Vista is in Dutch. Not english, so it gets kinda hard to do all the steps there, to find all the options and stuff. I'm defragmenting now...finished! lets see..

Heads up, I used that special defragmenter, and I managed to shrink it with another 150Gb , 100 Gb to go now

Re: Partitioning in Vista (Acronis, Disk manager)

I had this same problem. For some wierd reason Vista decides to place the page file at the mid point of your hard drive. You need to run a bootable defrag/partitioning disc in two stages to fix this. First you need to boot the disc telling it to defragment and make sure you select the option to move fixed files (i.e. the page file) to the start of the drive. Once it's done that use the disc to repartition your empty space.

Re: Partitioning in Vista (Acronis, Disk manager)

Well that works now, I can make partitions and stuff.
But theres another problem, each time I try making another partition, Acronis places another 6 Gb unallocated space in front of it. How can I stop it from doing this?

Re: Partitioning in Vista (Acronis, Disk manager)

Just resize it afterwards to the correct size?

Glad you're getting there (slowly) anyway

Re: Partitioning in Vista (Acronis, Disk manager)

It was 6mb, and only between the C partition and the E (D is the dvd drive) .
    So it doesnt really matter.
