xp pro sp2 driver gayness during install.

so i plugged in the ghastly floppy drive and put various drivers on a disk each its apparently a via vt6421 and thats what i used on a pendrive in vista setup.so anyways im going back to xp and i've tried the xp drivers on a floppy and it just says theres a problem with the oem text file or something similar:S then i try the silicon image sil3112 and sil3114 and i swear its sil3112 and it comes up ok with both files so i go enter and continue once its into the bit where you press enter to select hdd... NOTHING there.press F3 to quit.FFS WHY is this happening:S can someone link me to the exact drivers as there the ones i got off the cd.look in my vista thread for info on the disc.its some wierd branding.its a pci card...
    it just says:
"RAID PCI CARD ... Integrates one UltraATA-133/IDE interface, Supports external FLASH for BIOS for expansion and RAID functions.ferderal communication commision usa. Model NO:A-6421. DB0606141409 MADE IN CHINA" thats your lot:\
seems its not supported by default... the cd i've just found it... says "SUPER SOUND MULTIMEDIA" and google finds no direct site:S it has various drivers on the disc which i have scanned thoroughly in the vista installation startup and nothing i NEED those drivers!!!

Have you definitely extracted the drivers onto the floppy? Sorry if it sounds obvious, but its a pretty common cause of it not working, and obviously a zip archive wont work

Re: xp pro sp2 driver gayness during install.

1.) Just being clear - this is XP SP 2 your talking about as your other threads suggest your installing vista (I'm just double checking)
2.) Can you provide the exact error instead of "something like"
3.) when you press F6 to load the drivers from the floppy disk - do you see a list of devices on the disk and they fail when you load them or do you not see a list of devices available for loading.

As a sneaky trick, if you want to know a little more about the hardware, boot from one of the many ubuntu Live cd's I know you have, and do "sudo lspci -vv" then look at the output and find your raid cards. It will tell you the chipset, some other information and if you're lucky the actual manufacturer. Then we maybe able to take this forward for you, as we have no idea to the drivers any more than you do from your information
    It is Inevitable.....

Can you please provide the exact error as if your getting the list of drivers - your adding them, and there are still no drives present then either the driver isn't loading (in which case you'll get an error) or its an incorrect driver for the device with the disks hanging off it.

Re: xp pro sp2 driver gayness during install.

yeah it reckons that theres no hard discs found but it IS the driver as its off the actual disc and the winxp drivers folder.i've even tried the via ones aswell on the disc and they don't even get that far they just say something about a oemsetup.txt file error?
edit if it helpss i use the via vt6421 driver in vista but i swear in the past i've used the silicon image ones when i used to use a ide drive and install the pci card after once in windows through device manager...
EDIT: YEP its definately the "VIA VT6421 RAID Controller" thats what vista is reporting it is...

Re: xp pro sp2 driver gayness during install.

right i managed to use the via drivers after putting loads on various floppys... now after formatting the drive etc during setup im currently stuck on "setup cannot copy the file: viaraid.sys" but its there and the discs are brand new and i've even tried different versions on different discs and still nothing.grrrrr bloody floppy drives haha.
EDIT: as regard to please report the exact error.IF you read you will see I stated that its just telling me that there was no hard drive detected and to press F3 to exit as setup cannot continue.

Ok, just skim-read and it seems the issue here may be that you don't have the exact drivers. The card should have an FCC ID on it somewhere - can you post that? It should help nail the hardware

Re: xp pro sp2 driver gayness during install.

no hard drives was not the error. No hard disks is not an error as the controller was not loaded so thats to be expected

The error was in loading the driver the bit where you said "something like oem.txt issue etc etc etc"

When I said please report the error, I meant please report the exact error message so we could see if it was being loaded and erroring, not being loaded etc etc.

Information like "something like oem.txt issue etc etc etc" provide very little information on the issue.

You've been called up on this before - try to report the exact errors (not symptoms) and details

Re: xp pro sp2 driver gayness during install.

i said it was textsetup.oem if you read what i said for gods sake you'll see i reported what file was being a problem in the error.each time.oemsetup.txt etc.viaraid.sys you just didnt LOOK><
that was ALL it said that the following file ... couldn't be found or needed to be copied/installed but was failing.as i SAID.
but anyway its sorted now.im never using nlite.it sucked last time i used it.and before you ask i didn't remove anything to stop floppys being found or any windows components etc...

Odd, I've experimented with it a few times and not had any problems, but I've only used it to integrate drivers/hotfixes, it can do a lot more IIRC, perhaps you were using it for more advanced stuff than I was.

    Anyways, glad its working now

Struck a problem myself a while ago not too disimilar to keef's. If you make a CD with drivers integrated (mass storage ones anyway) you can't integrate more onto it at a later point. There's no mention of it in the error that pops up, just something about not being able to write to the registry. Had me baffled for ages, until I realised it wasn't an original file source I was trying to slipstream.

Anyway, main point of posting. Gayness... really?
