    SMP (multi core) folding

    Hi guys,

I'm just trying it, but I cant make the affinity's in XP Task Manager work.

Do I just turn one of them off (end process)? So I can have a core for my Radeon?

    Re: SMP (multi core) folding

nah..it's too hot today for this lark. My little Sugo shouldn't have to deal with all 4 cores at 100%.

I'm going back to Radeon folding

    Hi Zak,

Are you running the specific SMP client or trying to run individual clients on each core? if it's the former, it sorts itself out, it's what I'm running.

It does generate a shed load of heat though, as you have found! The results are well worth it though, in terms of what it will chew through (one frame every 9 minutes on my PC at the moment).

    Cheers,
    Stephen

yes matey....SMP. I was trying to knock one core off, and use it for Radeon folding but I cant suss that at all.

My Quad is at 2.67 though...you're is at 3.2 I think. So I'd take a lot longer sadly

Make sure you set the max CPU usage on the SMP one to be about 95%, as otherwise the Radeon task gets starved of CPU time. Basically, it needs to be polled periodically for its work status, and if your CPU is maxed out doing the SMP task, then there is nothing left to feed work to the Radeon task.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

    Re: SMP (multi core) folding

How do I set the Max CPU useage. It's not a console version, this SMP one, so it's just a C:\ screen.

On the GPU one I know how to do it.

    run fah.exe -config

go through the normal stages, but do "yes" to advanced options. Leave the priority on idle and the next option is CPU usage. Set that to 95%. I would also say yes to scientific cores and/or work units if available, you get more points for those.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

I tried doing that but nothing happened, I just want to change the CPU bit higher.

mine run's flat out as standard

Tell you waht thuogh....you NEED to leave it to properly start and be on 0% before going near the GPU client start up.

Or they conflict like Rangers and Celtic

    Re: SMP (multi core) folding

Did you download the SMP version, or the regular client?

I'm running 5.91 which you can download here: http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/fold...P%20Client.EXE

Also, see the Wiki for install instructions fir vista and XP: http://fahwiki.net/index.php/How_do_...ndows_Vista%3F

    Re: SMP (multi core) folding

I downloaded the 'no nonsense text only console' ver5.04, I see most ppl are using the SMP Client ver5.91 Beta. Looks like I made the wrong choice there. If I install the SMP Client will I loose my work units?

    Re: SMP (multi core) folding

I have no idea to me honest.

For SMP you need to SMP client, no other way to do it as far as i know.

Unless you make another installation and lanch another client manually. I guess that would work.
