Exclamation WMA Doing My NUT's IN BIG TIME

I still have a lot of my albums in wma format and when i ripped them to my HDD i forgot to un select protect content.
I know use a totally different ripper that makes it into mp3 not wma

Its a Big pain in the *$!&"£&"*! TBH!
Coz i keep needing to restore my licences + I want to put the tracks onto disk so i can play them in my mp3 head unit in my car...!

Can any recommend any good programs to convert my wma's into mp3???

    Thanks.....

If you now use a different ripper, why not simply re-rip?

i like CDex personally for ripping

and you'\re better off re-ripping than converting from one format to another - which loses a fair bit of quality

Take a look on this tool for converting between audio formats! It's a great one & helps me to remove drm-protection...

i'm pretty sure your license doesn't allow you to change the format

sure, in theory it might work with an app like dbpoweramp, but the whole *point* of the protection is to stop you from doing what you want

Media player 10 can put them into any format you want? and once set up becomes the default ie set it up to mp3 and it will always rip to you HD as a mps file. then burn to CD

technically WMA is far more advanced than mp3, and to most people with a hifi the difference at say 128kbits is hudge. The problem is stupid copy protection like this, stoping you doing what you want (even thou what u've done already is probably ilegal).

My advice would be to rip them again, transcoding from one lossy format to another is a major quality killer, however if you simply just remove the protection then that might be okay, however most programs that remove protection do so by compressing it to wma AGAIN! This is as bad as compressing it to another format, if you compressed a nice CD sourced bit of music that had say some flute in it, to mp3 192kbits say 15times the result would be somewhat horrid.

GRIP using cdparanoia as the ripper does a pretty good scratch detection and repair (but can't do anything about your sister ) but is Linux based.

You might want to look at www.4musics.com for a (not free) windows based converter. There is a free trial period, but the trial version disables batch conversion (and only lasts 15 days) OK for a few tracks, but a pain if you have a lot!

Whoa removes DRM, nice one - although I don't purchase DRM material, it's nice to have that extra freedom

that freedom isn't yours to take. you bought the music under a given license, you really shouldn't go back and try to change the terms - can you see yourself getting away with "yeah, i rented this DVD, but i decided to keep it, thanks"?

I agree. Its worth waiting to get the disks back and re ripping, but high bit rate WMA is a good format tbh, shame it's no good for your car
