Q6600, mobo, some ram, and perhaps a flash drive to boot from is going to come in under £300. One of those ubber 1000Watt+ PSUs could power a few of those systems. You don't need a case for each one, some clever DIY will turn them into a cluster.
You could then do an article on it, get some discussion on how to build a budget folding cluster that is compact and readily available.
Lets see, corsair ram/power supply, Intel chips, AMD/ATI graphics in there perhaps, som Scan parts?
I seem to think that a certain online retailer with a large comunity forum did something like this a few years ago. Can't remember what distributed project it was for tough. I also think it was done just to see if it was possible, perhaps even with mini-ITX systems as opposed to anything with real grunt.
what do you think?![]()
It is something we have thought about - and doing it may be possible... Let us see...
Sweet
Some hexus.tv of the build would be very cool too. Lots of components = lots of excited geeks![]()
Maybe they (or somebody) could find somewhere in the office/garage to house our old equipment and we could send all our older parts in?
I will soon have an A64 3200+ going spare for example.
HEXUS FOLDING TEAM It's EASY
Would you even need hard disks? you could probably run it off a flash drive with a really small Linux iso on it.

Chugging along now though.
Tempted to see how well my HTPC case can dissipate heat from my Energy Eficient AMD AM2 4200+ without any active cooling![]()
Is it me or have about 10/12 more users appeared since I last looked?
This is cool!
It should be compulsary conscription for all new members...
I saw that... I'm seriously considering aquiring one of these graphics cards though...
I'm getting addicted to folding... is that bad?
Only for your electric bill
The end results of doing stuff like this should be great as we are helping them research various things which would take years in a matter of weeks or months.
I reckon more emphasis should be done to get more people to help with distributed computing so that new drugs, cures and better treatments are researched for todays epidemic diseases.
