    Vista search question.

On Vista x64 (or x86 for that matter), when everything has been indexed and should be working OK, and you do a search from the start menu (the search thats built into the start menu, not the search button), does it find what you want it to on the first try?

If I go to the start menu and then click on the search button, it generally finds what I ask it to most of the time and really fast, but the start menu search always takes ages and about 90% of the time comes up with nothing.

Is this something that needs setting, or does this happen to everyone?

Its very annoying and I'm going to write to my MP.

Nope, sometimes it takes a couple of attempts to find what I'm after, even when I know it's there.

    Cheers,

Right click start menu, properties, customi[s]e, scroll down to 'search files', and hit the "Search entire index" radio button. The start menu search should behave the same as the Search window then.

    Re: Vista search question.

Much better, but still misses some stuff, even when its been indexed. I will leave it a few days to see if it changes now that setting is changed.

    Re: Vista search question.

Yeah, just make sure you add any extra dirs/volumes you want to index in indexing options, by default it only performs indexing in C:/Users iirc.

    Re: Vista search question.

I already indexed the entire PC minus the system folders and program files, and thats why I was stumped as to why it wouldnt work.

Seems odd to have that disabled by default, but hopefully that cures it, cheers
