Mark Russinovich (who's been working for MS for a while now) posts an interesting bit of info on the tradeoffs that MS made to get this working. This shouldn't affect you unless you're on Gigabit Ethernet or are using multiple adapters, though one commenter said he'd experienced a far larger loss in network performance. There should still be enough throughput that online games aren't directly affected, the problems (supposedly) only affect high-end throughput and not latency, so Vista's problems with games lie elsewhere.
