    Tiggerai's new project

I'm building a folding rig, for my weekendly jaunts.

I'll update this thread when i'm back from the Isle of Man on Sunday night, but if anyone has any bits and pieces they might be able to donate then please let me know...

    I'm addicted to folding...

What kind of parts are you looking for?

I do have a 160gb IDE HD lying around of no use to me.

    Re: Tiggerai's new project

160gb would be overkill for a folding machine, unless its doubling as something else too.

Ill have a look if I have anything knocking around.

go on peeps, give generously, it's for a good cause. I would donate myself, but my spare kit is already spoken for.

I'm sure I can find some odds and sods in the office that could be of use. I'm not back in the office until the end of September though but I'll have a look around.

If you need anything specific, then give me a shout.

    Re: Tiggerai's new project

Actually, here's a thought. We could put together a list of all the old kit people have and then try and get it combined to form folding@home rigs. At least that way it's getting put to a good use and contributing to Hexus's attempts to benefit the medical world. People would have to do it on the basis it's a donation.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

I have a spare AMD A64 3000 939 cpu and 2 x 512 gig of ram, although I don't think it would be compatible with the cpu, so if Tig can get a 939 board, I'll give the cpu to her.

Fantastic Idea! - I'll get mine off the ground, then we'll open it up to the rest of hexus to get the others on the go (it'll be good publicity for the folding team too don't you think?) - e.g alsenoir already has some boards / cpus that need testing... it's a community project and I know how difficult it is to find time to do anything these days so sharing the workload sounds ideal to me.

I've started a donation thread here for any bits that can't be used for my rig - I'll devise a spreadsheet tomorrow evening.

I'll write it all up of course as this will be a community project and I wanna share it with you guys.
I'm willing to donate my electricity if you guys can help with the parts.

So without further adooooo (I've got 2 weekends at home on the 15th and 22nd Sept so I've got the time to build it too - that gonna be ok with you guys?)

At the moment I'm planning on getting a 939 board (Ikonia, that CPU would be ideal) to add to the 2x512 Ram I've got in my current rig (and swapping it for the 2x256 I've got spare) and changing the hiper PSU I've got in the main rig to the folding rig.

HDD would be ideal G4Z, thanks.

    So, I need the following...

Socket 939 board (preferably ABIT) with PCI-E and compatible with DDR RAM
    Case
PSU (for my downloading and surfing rig - This one already folds too)
    CPU Heatsink for CPU above
    Heatsink fan(s)

Possibility of random cableage needed, but I'm sure we can all have a rummage. Most likely need a kettle lead and IDE cables.

Anyone that has had more sleep than me, can you check I'm not missing anything? (Won't need a monitor / keyboard as the other rig will be turned into a webserver eventually so will be accessed though VNC for now)

Oooh this is exciting, not done this for a while... any help I need (i.e silly questions) is going in here, so keep an eye out guys... thanks!

    Re: Tiggerai's new project

if the 939 board turns out to be AGP - I have an nvidia 5*** something AGP card that would work fine.

I've also got a cooler for the AMD 3000+ too, but you'll need cpu rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish
