Direct X 8.1 What the Hell???

Can any one help me????
Coz im trying to get Starfleet command 3 working for a very Good mate of mine

Why the hell Do i need Direct X 8.1 when i have got Direct X 9 on my system???

Every time i run the game i can see the vids, but after that i get an error telling me that Direct X 8.1 is not installed??? Even tho i've got Version 9???

Can any one tell me why?

Its a bug with DX9 ... it doesn't tell the sytem is DX8.1 or better, try either DX9.0b or try reinstalling windows and putting DX9.0 on it (first version)!
