    Can't Access Folders on Drive!

Hey, I have a hard drive I removed from an old system and am trying to access the files on my computer (as admin account). I can get into all the User files except the Administrator one (which had a password on logon). It comes up with "don't currently have permission to access this folder"

Now, this isn't a robbed drive or anything (I know the logon password!), but would have to totally re-build the old system (different mobo/ chipset) to access these files!!

There MUST be a way around this, as it's really annoying?!!

What OS? What filesystem? If the directory is encrypted then you will need the key/passphrase to decrypt it.

You should be able to take ownership of the admin folder and then reset the permissions. Alternatively you migght be able to use a Linux live CD and access the files that way.

The disk is XP Pro SP2, but I've tried to access it through XP Pro SP2, and Vista Ultimate with the same result in both

It just pops up with the warning - I have checked Permissions and set them all the Allow too.

Re: Can't Access Folders on Drive!

I would suspect an ownership issue, but I'm not really up to speed on XP (never downgraded from win2K!). I have done what you descibe under Win2k by adjusting ownership and changing permissions (but that is not much help to you)

Others may have better advice, otherwise there is the Linux live CD option (Knoppix/Ubuntu/Fedora)

Re: Can't Access Folders on Drive!

Thanks guys! I had to go into the Security > Advanced > Owner > Edit then change that to me!

    Cheers
