End of the line for msn 6.2?

    Hello all,

Today I got to work and tried logging on to msn, only to be greeted with an insistence that I upgrade now. It has been giving me 'polite' reminders for months but there are a number of very good reasons why I really don't want to 'upgrade' to a later version.

Is there any way I can trick it into letting me log on?

I'm also assuming windows messenger still works. I deleted mine (which involved a bit of registry hacking IIRC) so if someone could check

Slightly worrying if it is because the latest versions will only run on XP - another case of MS forcing the market place! Still. there are some open source solutions available.

Forcing you from 1 free MS product to another MS product which does all of the previous and more?

I agree that Messenger Live isn't exactly an awesome piece of software, but it's hardly miles worse than the previous versions. If you just A-patch it it'll be fine. Just shinier.

Er no - forcing me to change my operating system if I want to use it - as I said in my original post, the latest versions only run on XP or later.

Latest version of 7 (so far) doesn't run on earlier versions. (Specifically Win2K)

Re: End of the line for msn 6.2?

Not sure if this works for 6.2, but it does for 7.5

Right click on msnmsgr.exe, select properties > compatibilty, change it to windows 2000, click apply.

Next time you run it, it will 1st go through the repair process, and aslong as you keep this compatibility mode it wont ask you to install the newer version.

Re: End of the line for msn 6.2?

Pidgin is ok.. but not really that great. I love some of the things it does but file transfers don't seem to work as well, there's no webcam support and the last release just crashes on one of my pc's on startup.
