I just formatted the hard drive of my old XP machine for the first time since I got it about 5 years ago. However, while Im reinstalling Windows I get an error message saying:
'Fatal Error
An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing.
One of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.
Incorrect function.
Press OK to view the setup log file.'
The setup log file says:
'Error:
SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "D:\1386\asms\6000\MSFT\VCRTL\VCRTL.MAN" on line 11.
***
Error:
Installation failed: D:\1386\asms. Error Message: Incorrect function.
***
Fatal Error:
One of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.'
Pressing OK (only option) then restarts PC. Ive tried formatting again and starting over but I get exactly the same message. Anyone know whats wrong?
