Server Temperatue Analysis
Is there a tool or program out there that can read the temperature information on a system running Windows Server 2003 SBS edition?
The fans have been reported as noisy and I keep an eye on the temperatures remotely rather than having to go over to the display panel all the time.

You could run Speedfan or similar and RDP onto the box? Or are you thinking some sort of SNMP monitoring?

Tried a couple of common ones like Speedfan and TAT and no joy, they won't run on the OS.
Re: Server Temperatue Analysis
Argh - Looks like you're going to need to splash for some server monitoring software. Speedfan claims to run on Server 2003 though, so I can't see any reason that it would fail on SBS.
Re: Server Temperatue Analysis
Tried running it in some compatability mode?
It might also be the case that the device driver isn't allowed to register itself, iirc SBS has some more draconian security settings that are on by default.
Re: Server Temperatue Analysis
Right, got to the bottom of the problem, turns out the download had glitched last time I tried to download it. Grabbed the latest version and it's at least reporting temperatures.
Assuming they're accurate I'm puzzled as to why the server fans are running as high as they are

Cool - now you have Speedfan running it might be worth looking at Webtemp to give you an easily accessible way to monitor the box
Re: Server Temperatue Analysis
What hardware is it running on ?
Re: Server Temperatue Analysis
HP Proliant ML370 G5, 2 x 1.86GHz Xeons, 4GB ram, 4 x 72GB 15K HDD and 3 x 146GB 10K HDD.
I've since checked the pull out front panel and it's not alarming, just the fans are spinning louder than they have been of late. Gonna have a play around with the cables in the cabinet incase something's slipping and blocking the airflow.
Re: Server Temperatue Analysis
have you installed the latest PSP ?
Re: Server Temperatue Analysis
Given that I understand PSP to mean PlayStationPortable, I'm guessing not!
I really wish they'd give me the time off to go and do a basic sysadmin course here! I'm learning as I go with hardware worth £10,000
