I think they're getting smarter!
I've just upgraded two of my XP machines.
Thanks - you've just found me some wallpaper that will go nicely with Ubuntu....
yeah, it's been staple policy on pretty much any corporate orders when a new OS comes out for some time.
Sounds sensible to me!
Not around too often!
Darn, hope my MD doesn't find out about this, was hoping to get a handful of new PC's ordered (including an upgrade for me!) ordered on the basis XP stops becoming available early next year
thats changed to June now methinks

Again, it's nothing new. In much the same way as businesses buying XP machines could install 2000.
I wanted to do that with a boxed retail version when I built a PC about 6 months ago. At the time I emailed Microsoft, and they said that it was not allowed.
it's why Dell Business PC's sell.....cos you can have XP on them

As people seem not to want to read the artcle have a quote
It's for businesses, you can only do it through the OEM (HP, Fujitsu etc etc etc)"That's going to help out small- and medium-size businesses," Fujitsu marketing manager Brandon Farris told CNET.co.uk's sister site News.com.
Imateaf - this is EXACTLY the same deal that you could get when you bought an XP machine at XP's launch. Hence there were so many HP machines at the company I work with a dual XP and 2000 license (one time choice only) when XP was launched.
It isnt, you could buy XP and downgrade to 2000 in exactly the same way, for free, assuming you get a OEM version.
This is nothing new, at the seminars about Vista before its release microsoft made it clear that this policy still stood in the new EULA.
Our new machine policy was/is to buy Vista Business and use the XP image for restore since the first day Vista was released.
Same here, once we'd ascertained that the deal still held. We deployed our first Win2K machines w/NT4, our first XP machines w/2K and so on.
