Need Help With Adobe In-Design Converting to PDF

I have designed a leaflet in In-Design and when printing from in-design it prints as expected. However, I need to convert the file to PDF so I can take it to a local printers so he can run off a few thousand for me. When I view the PDF, all the colours are washed out, e.g. black is gray. I thought it was maybe just for screen viewing, but when I print it, it's still washed out. I've tried changing the exporting settings to change colours to different types of RGB or CMYK but it always gives me the same washed-out look, as if it's got 80% transparency on the whole document.

make sure the indesign document is cmyk and all the elements within it have been converted to cmyk.

what screen are you using monitors have a habit of showing colours diff to printers esp if not calibrated properly. And the fact that RGB what the monitor displays differs from cmyk which is what the printer prints.
