I'm running a Q6600 on vista 64, all was good with the windows world, I ran Firefox as my default browser and BOINC of course (32-bit version)
Came to me PC around 5ish and Firefox left a message cannot connect - network indicator says local and internet - other machines are OK to.
Tried a restart, now messenger stops working and BOINC and I get the errors that they cannot start, let vista diagnose which doesn't work because this can't / fails to connect to the internet.
I Uninstalled the NIC driver - Vista puts it straight back on and all diagnostics say OK.
I Removed the NIC device and VISTA finds it again same issue, so I try connecting with IE7 x64 and wham straight to msn, d/l BOINC x64 and wahay 4 units are crunching.
Tried system restore which only let me go back a system checkpoint at 16:53 no further - is this a coincidence?
Anyway this had happened before but I wasn't so careful with how. Only option then was a fresh install.
Posted on another sight then:
I followed a wierd post through Google - (page 37 of the search) and found the answer - right at the bottom
Vista Experience Update: Windows Vista x64 runs 32-bit Internet Explorer by Default

I forgot to comment: the solution in my case was to uninstall NOD 32. Even without a reboot everything started to work fine. And what is more weird: i reinstalled nod32 and no problem since then. I suppose vista still has some issues to deal with. Many, indeed. Hope this helps someone. Cheers."
I tried exactly this and it worked, reinstalled NOD32 and is allk OK again.
There you go folks HTH![]()
