    9x / NT - Help? :)

    Ok i have a wierd.... er.... thing, for the lack of a better word.

    I have installed 2k again recently, on the same Service pack ( 4 ) and some games ( which to be fair are only meant to run on 9x ) no longer run, but they used to fine on 2k before, with the same SP number etc, any one got any ideas?

    Red Alert2 wont run ( does on my other pc with 2k on right now.. )
    nore Dungeon Keeper2 ( also does on my other pc with 2k on right now...)

    Any one?

    Cheers for any feedback

    Log on as Administrator.
    Click Start, click Run.
    In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK
    regsvr32 Winnt\apppatch\slayerui.dll

    You should then have the compatibility options available.

    RA2 should run no problems! You sure the account running it has admin rights?
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    lol i always log in as admin, im the only person who uses this pc - its mine, all mine *evil laugh*

    will try than now, thanks Jiff

    *edit*

    Ok, tried it Jiff, the update thing worked ok, said it has Suceeded.

    But there arent any more options on right click, going to propities has an extra "version" tab though, which has file details and stuff.

    I have actually though of why it doesnt work now, because before my games partition was in Fat32, now its in NTFS, the only big differance i can think of.

    Thanks for all the help, if you have any more ideas then please post back

    Cheers

    there's a patch for dk2 (trying to find a link) that makes it compatible with win2k, although admittedly I just reinstalled 2k with sp4 and am having similar problems with Dark Omen (which used to bloody work too)

    Patch Here

    It isn't NTFS either, mine have run from ntfs partitions.

    Also, what do you mean by "don't run" do they just not start, or get a little distance, then crash?

    Dungeon Keeper 2 definately needs the newest patch for it. I had problems on XP Pro with it and the patch sorted it out.

    System Shock 2 you can install using the compatibility wizard and then it runs fine under NTFS system.

    Blood 2 won't run at all unfortunately.

    Project Eden is a nightmare to run under XP and 2000, Only way I could get the required performance was to use the software mixer for the sound.

    (I know you havn't mentioned these games but just thought I'd mention them whilst here !)

    As for RA2 that should be working fine. On XP to get the compatibility options up you right click on the games .exe file in the installation directory and select properties and in there you have a compatibility tab so you can select the mode you want. I havn't used 2000 on my system for a while now but I'm pretty sure its the same as XP.
