i have pictures taken from my holiday in Paris. now. i currently don't have Nero or Irfanview or anything of the sort. i only have the latest Windows media player. can i use that to burn those pics onto a CD? how do i do that?

No, but there is a built-in CD burner as part of windows explorer.
Simply put in your blank media, windows will pop up a list of options, choose open folder to write CD or something. This will open a normal windows folder view of the CD, which will be blank. Drag and drop files into this and then click 'run CD burning wizard' or something like that. You can also just open the drive folder containing the blank media and do the same thing.
