I'm trying to move 84Gb of data from 1 drive to another on my vista machine (around 7,000 files) and it's telling me it's going to take 1 day 5 hours! I'm assuming there is something seriously wrong with the way Vista estimates the time taken and it won't actually take that long.....
Where are you copying them from?

from from E: drive to my D: drive - both SATA II , both plugged into the motherboard
It's a known issue with Vista... download the performance patches off the web.

I would recommend using tools like Total-commander to do your copying instead of windows explorer.

you could also boot a CD linux distro like puppy and copy the files that way
