HP's universal printer driver top tip!
Dont ever use it!
It interferes with any other HP printer drivers - something not uncommon with HP printer drivers.
It doesn't work properly with printers its listed as supporting and guess what - those are the ones whose native drivers it interferes with!
Thank god the print server was tested properly before deployment as it needed a full rebuild to remove all traces of the thing.
Re: HP's universal printer driver top tip!
Where did you get the universal printer driver, as all my info says its still in development and is having some additional input to allow a "cloud" style technology for mobile devices / phones to be able to print genericly.

Looking for drivers for various printers on the HP site - on about 90% of the printer models I saw the HP universal driver listed. Did some reading up on it and it looked like a good way of reducing the chance of driver problems.
The "cloud" technology does work - the driver has 2 moded - dynamic and traditional. In dynamic mode, you select to print to the dynamic driver and when you print the dialog box poprs up to search for printers in the local subnet. Traditional mode you just install it for the printer as you would normally. If the printer works in traditional mode, it will also work in dynamic mode
Re: HP's universal printer driver top tip!
I'm curious to if it says it is production or development.
I have it from a reliable source that it is still in development - very much in development so I'm curious to if HP is marking it as stable, or if just took a gamble on dev work
