F8 recent hardware or software screen

    History :-

    I was given a PC to repair ( a company i do work for ) XP Home - XP 2400+ , Sis chipset , 512 333 ram
the machine was taking 5 min to access "my computer"
    it was a mess lol
it had half installed Kodak , Aol , + other programs
    bios settings were incorrect
it has a program that controls CNC data machine ( dongle protected ) they have install disks but they dont work they needed to keep this program as is.
it had been rolled back a few times
on every reboot it comes up with the F8 recent hardware or software screen

I have resolved all the issues except the F8 recent hardware or software screen on every reboot
i have removed all bloatware ( except norton AV ) ( manualy )
i have reinstalled all drivers ( and added an AGP card )
it now runs fast and programs work but i cant stop the F8 recent hardware or software on reboot

Any Ideas ? ( except doing a repair install as i dont know how the dongle driver is working )

    Paul

Have a look at the registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Select

Current and Default should be set to 1 and Failed should be 0
