even the supposed king, the ps3, gets about half the points per day as the smp client on a mediocre cpu
that goes against everything iv heard up until this point.... because they value ps3 and smp differnet or because the smp actually does more work?
are there any plans for a GUI smp client? yes i know its a bit slower but i like things with a GUI
edit: and also, whens the radeon 2xxx client out, because while im aiming at an 8800GT there IS time for a counter attack from the red (green?) side that could sway me

The points issue is probably down to how they calculate the points a work unit is worth. Each work unit (or type of work unit) is run on a benchmark machine then a points value is calculated for that work unit using the formula
(x points) * (number of days required on the benchmarking system)
In the case of SMP work units x=1760 points, for the Radeon client x=330 not sure about the CPU client or the PS3 client. The SMP client is worth much more per benchmarked day than any other setup because it requires access to greater system resources (paraphrased from the F@H FAQ).
For the PS3 since all of them are the same as the bench mark machine they will all get x points per day where as a high speced PC may out perform the benchmark machine getting 1760 points in say 18 hours, my E6550 @2.5GHz currently gets a SMP work unit done in 28.5 hours, but that still way out performs my X1950xt which did a work unit in 18 hours for 330 points!

Nice summary there Webby
I'm gonna join in with this I think. I've got two dual core machines that do nothing most of the time. They should help us along.

I have been mostly using my X1950XTX for folding@home, but this smp client sounds interesting. Never used it before.
Folding@Home SMP Client FAQ
Just to confirm I am supposed to be using the instructions from the above page to install it?
Gah - I knew it was going too good yesterday.
I had a few BSOD's related to hard-drive and guess what has appeared to be totally shafted last night when I went back to my room. Yeap - the hard-drive RAID array for which my OS was installed. It appears the old 80 Gib SATA drives are on their way out and as such I'll be back later tonight once I've done a rebuild, reinstall and tweaking session.
[UPDATE] - I didn't have to reinstall windows in the end - I simply logged in as the administrator and fixed my profile and it's working fine now loaded the new SMP client at about 11 pm last night and this morning I had over 30% completed. At this rate it was worth the update to the CPU
