    Shutdown Hanging

    Hello,

I've recently got a new mouse and keyboard..

The keyboard is a Keysonic ACK-5000 HL, and mouse is a Razer Copperhead.

Since installing the new keyboard and mouse i've been having difficulties shutting down, restarting and putting the PC into standby.

Whenever i go to Shutdown to the PC it just hangs at the "Windows is shutting down.." Screen..

The same applies when going into Stanby or restarting.

Got a funny feeling it's the Mouse or Keyboard that's causing this..

Bit of an annoyance since the PC is under the desk and i always prefer to let Windows do it's thing when i'ts shutting down..

Just wondered if anyone knew any reason as to why it would do this.

    Thanks,

    Iain.

What for the mouse and keyboard?

I've installed the Razer configuration utility and the Keyboard driver from the CD.

You think it would be worht uninstalling them?

I'd certainly go and look for the latest versions on the web site as the versions on the CD are usually out of date

    Re: Shutdown Hanging

Vista does the same for me if I leave background programs open. This means I have to close the likes of steam, MSN and email etc before shutting down each time. I don't know if it's just one program that's causing it, or all of them together.

Used to happen with XP sometimes too.

    Re: Shutdown Hanging

I've spent a few hours tonight trying to get rid of this problem.

    I've tried removing the drivers.

Come to the conclusion it's definatley the keyboard.. I've taken the mouse out and the problem still applies, but once the keyboard is taken out the problem is still there.

I've tried going into Safe mode to see if it's a service that's causing it but still with the keyboard plugged in it still freezes.

Searched everywhere for drivers.. The only drivers supplied with the keyboard was a Multimedia Slim Keyboard disc.. Looked for a version of Multimedia Slim Keyboard but couldn't find any.

Totally clueless as to what to try next..

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is really started to bug me,

    Thanks,

    Iain.

    EDIT

Just tried reinstalling drivers.. AGAIN! lol..

Tried it twice to be sure it wasn't just a one off..

Whilst installing the drivers provided with the disk the PC freezes, won't allow me to do anything at all..

Then when i turn on the PC the keyboard doesn't work at all.

Lucky i've got an old PS/2 keyboard

Got a bit frustrated when i tried entering a password and nothing came up lol

    Re: Shutdown Hanging

You shouldn't need any drivers for the keyboard. XP SP2 has drivers for USB keyboards that will also recognise any multimedia keys it has as long as it produces the standard windows codes. The drivers supplied on the disc are possibly old 16bit ones designed for Win95, which could muck things up. Make sure you've stripped them out completely, check the setup.ini to see what files it installs and make sure they're removed along with any registry changes. Or you could do a System Restore to go back to a state before the drivers were installed.

    Re: Shutdown Hanging

    I thought about that Charleski,

I did'nt really want to system restore or saerch for registry changes etc..

Instead, I plugged it into a PC in the other room which is running the same version of XP and once again, plugged it in and it hung as it was shutting down.

This keyboard isn't even listed on the Keysonic site, seriously considering sending it back but that's last resort for me.

    Re: Shutdown Hanging

Try toggling the state of Legacy USB support in the BIOS (turn it off if it's on, and vice-versa). I notice that it has an integrated USB hub. You could try disabling that in in the Device manager, though I suspect that'll also stop the keyboard from working.
