Internet Security Suites

Hey all,

Which Internet Security Suite would be the best for a home user? I've looked around and can see various applications by McAfee and Norton, even Kaspersky looks good. But which one would get your vote?

BTW, it should be an all in one package including AV, FW, Anti-Spyware and Adware and should be easy to use!

Kaspersky Internet Security gets my vote in regards to security software.

I've used most packages because we need to know the software in my line of work and I was that impressed with kaspersky I removed my older security software across my systems and rolled out the latest version.

I don't use an all over package for my security.

I use the following:

Virus - Avast for my virus checking (which I found superb as it even checks webmail!)
Firewall - Windows firewall and router firewall (have also be known to use Zonealarm)
Spybot - for preventative maintenance and removal of spyware & adware

No need to spend a penny in my opinion (well you can donate money to these worthy bits of software) using these three in conjunction has stood me in good stead.

I've got Kaspersky Internet Security 7 - like Lee I was impressed by it. I've got it on 5 PCs at home.

Thanks to a heads-up here I've also bought the licences from eBay, much cheaper and a very effective solution.

i would go for avast! antivirus (free!) great program that catches just about anything and updates about 10 times a day... so you know its always up to date, only down side the the annoying american accent that tells you its just updated

and sunbelt kerio personal firewall (again, free!) has both an idiot proof and advanced mode....

A couple of votes for Kaspersky so far, sounds and looks pretty good.

Thanks to the others for your suggestions, but it really has to be a "one application to rule them all" kind of thing for ease of use. Having 3 or 4 programs is better, I know, I use several myself, but for someone not quite so tech savvy, it can be confusing!

I use Kaspersky for AV, but have AVG as well. I paid for Kaspersky multi-machine licence, but AVG is the free version.

I add ZoneAlarm for firewall (as well as a hardware firewall), and SpyBot S&D and AdAware, though I've been less impressed recently with the latter.

Like some others have said, I prefer to use several picked and tuned applications rather than one "does it all" suite, because I've never found a suite I was convinced was the best option for several different functions.

Apparently the firewall could do with a little tweaking, but it's very quickly become very popular. I'd have no hesitations in buying it myself, but I only use the AV.

Agree totally.
I have used McAfee, Kaspersky, Norton, Panda and Avast.

Kaspersky is by far the best and not a system hog or intrusive.

i am on the 6 month free trial of kaspersky 7 but as soon as my license expires i will be renewing it.

only problem i have had is that it thinks that my creative installation cd for x-fi is a virus

I agree, and I too use several programs (AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, ZA and my Router's firewall), but as I said it's not for me, it's for someone who's not as "tech savvy" as myself and just wants some sense of security whilst writing e-mails and reading some web pages.

There's been quite a few positive votes for Kaspersky, and I admit it looks and sounds pretty good, so I may get that for them.
