I just inherited 5 boxes (only P4 2.4, but every little helps) which will be a mini folding farm for a couple of weeks once I get it all built

Its probably not worth the power cost... sell them and buy a cheap dual core system for folding

Re: OK...... 350 is in site :)

Working on the basis that the benchmark machine for the CPU client is a P4 2.8GHz and that gives 110 points a day for the 5 machines your probably looking at 500 points a day max but as you say every little helps

But if you could sell them and build a duel core folder (as Sim suggests) SMP would be the way forward ~1200 points per day even if it took 35 hours a work unit, and cheaper in the electricity stakes

Yeah I know the output will be hardly stonking, just a little project I've wanted to play with for a while and now that I have the resources to go ahead with it and all that...

It's only likely to last a week or so, but it's something to occupy my mind

Well I found out that my stock 4400 is pants at the SMP client, 7hrs and only 1 percent complete compared to a dual quad core xeon box doing 25% in the same time period...

sounds like a comms issue between processes. try restarting the client, and ensure cpufreqd is disabled

Difficult to forecast because the welcome and useful boost by directhex has caused a blip in the statistics, but there is a possibility that we could be in the top 300 by the end of December - possibly by Christmas.

I still stand by my prediction of top 200 by February as the target we should be aiming for

Followed the instructions the same as i set up on the server box, running vista business 32bit with 2gb ram with no other applications open, just the AV running in the background, thats it.

Well at the mo the server will do as its on 24/7 anyway being our work server, but it will be rebuilt soon, but panic not, it will have it on again. also looking to put it on a few more servers if possible, same cpu configuration...
