    Sound mixer for games

I'm currently using my home surround system with my PC.
Unfortunately the PC sits between the Front right and rear right speakers not between the front right and front left as it should be.

So when i play games all the sound is on my left hand side.

What i want is to make the left signal go to the right speaker and the right speaker go to the rear right speaker.

I can do this with movies and music using ffdshow which has a built in mixer, but i need one to use for games.

Stereo is fine for playing the games, it doesn't have to be surround sound output. and I can't just switch the cables around because my crappy receiver doesn't have analogue inputs to control anything apart from the front 2 stereo channels. SO I have to use optical.

    Any ideas?

I don't find headphones too comfortable for extended play. And I want to make use of the sub woofer at least

But its not a bad idea. But i definitely need a better set than the cheapo ones i have now.
And it does seem to be the only solution anyones come up with

You want one front channel to go to the front, but the other front channel to go to one rear speaker. I was going to suggest if you HD Audio and analog outputs to your speakers that you could switch the jack configurations, but you want to split a stereo pair.

No idea, sorry. Give it time, this is a new post!

Very interesting to see that you can do something similar with ffdshow, however. I've really not experimented with it. If you can use it for movies but also for music (how?) then maybe you should Google for ways to get it in the gaming path too...

    Re: Sound mixer for games

I can only guess that it relabels the different sound channels in the DD or DTS soundstream when its working with movies.....Unfortunately, PCs still do not have audio out via DD or DTS streams (Although I am having a recollection of a soundcard discussed here recently that may have done it)

I personally think headphones is your answer. Check out the Sennheisser range and don't be cheap!
