Vista 64 not installing

Ok, this is frustrating, after getting my new system together and manging to get a successful POST test, I went to install Vista.

I've set the SATA mode to ACHI and I'm using a SATA DVD drive and HDD, it recognises that the disc is there because it starts loading files and it gets to screen with a mouse cursor on that moves, but it doesn't go any futher than that...

What gives??

Ignore me it's just running really really slowly (got the same issue with the XP disc), I'm guessing it's a lack of proper driver support on the generic discs.

Had a smilar prob on a friend's pc, it was really slow, but when I temp installed an ide dvd drive it installed at a more reasonable speed.

happened to me the first time i installed vista. i thought my disc was broken or files were corrupt. always test it out on other pcs

Well it's up and running now, so here begins the long long process of migrating my data and installing all the programs I want to run.

THis makes me glad that I got an old IDE CD burner for my new rig (I actually couldn't find a Lite-On 52x SATA burner. lol). My slightly slower DVD drive is a SATA drive though...meaning the XP installation will be painless (I hope...hard drives will be SATA and RAID-0'd...hopefully my slipstreamed SP2 will make it work), but installign the Vista DVD might take some time from the sound of it...ah well.

I had the opposite problem - Vista wouldn't install from an IDE drive so I had to get an SATA model...
