    Missing Network Connections...

    Yeap..

Windows has just got interesting to say the least.

I'm connected to the web and everything, but none and I mean none of the connections ( 2 btw ) I have as LAN connections are showing in Network Connections via the control panel and I cannot see anyway in getting to them to adjust IP addresses, ports and stuff that I really need access too

Anyone any ideas as I can't be bothered reinstalling again as I've only just done that last week.

    Re: Missing Network Connections...

Interesting... You tried uninstalling the NICs in device manager and allowing Windows to redetect? I assume if you do an ipconfig /all from a command prompt all is fine?

    Re: Missing Network Connections...

    this is most bizzare.

i'd guess its only a problem with explorer, that horrific lump of ***t.

Do you have any 3rd party apps that run inside explorer? (if you download something called proccess explore from sysinternals, you can see every library thats been loaded into explorer).

That said i'd guess it could likely be a profile setting, you tried creating a new administrative profile? Might find if you use that its all fine.

Anything weird in your event log? Process Explorer is a good idea too.

    Re: Missing Network Connections...

Did you slipstream anything into the install disk?
I had this exact same issue with one of the plugins off RyanVM's forums ages ago.

Has it worked at all since your install of Windows?

    Re: Missing Network Connections...

Have you tried disabling them in the BIOS, booting to Windows and then re-enabling them one at a time? Whilst I can understand them missing under Network connections, for them to be missing under Device manager is definately odd.

Have you also tried viewing device manager by connection instead of by type, is there anything unusual showing (such as a pair of USB devices or something)?

    Re: Missing Network Connections...

Windows is from a genuine MCE2005 2 disk installation pack

So it's install windows, install drivers for chipset (inc NIC drivers), graphics, additonal PCI cards, windows update for all the latest updates and of course my music gathering util and winRar. That's it. No other software just a quite a few games.

Both cards are now showing in device manager, but still the network connections folder/area is empty when it shouldn't be.

You may have disabled the service that's needed to display them "Network Connections" I believe.

Pretty much what that knowledge base covers (plus a load of other steps)

I'd be interested to find out at which stage things recover for future reference.

    Re: Missing Network Connections...

Network files were corrupted - looks like it's been fixed as I have my flashing boxes and connection information back

the re-registering of the DLL's worked fine.

Thanks for that link Lucio - worked a treat

    Glad I could help

Not entirely altristic mind you, as I do have an ulterior motive of wanting to improve my troubleshooting skills to help with the job hunting
