Cool arrange 'my documents' how i want in windows xp

    Hi all,

I have Windows XP Professional and have always arranged my documents (in'My Documents', as you'd imagine..) as I please, & they've stayed where I leave them (in tiles view). Just recently Windows has starting re-arranging them for me, and the only options it offers me in Properties is arrange by size, type, visited and name. I don't want any of these, so how do I go back to arranging them to suit me? - usually, in the order I made them (not visited). I've seen mentions of this in the forums but all seem to be about choosing a view or type (icon/thumbnail &c) for a folder & it reverting to default, not the actual order of the tiles on the 'page'.

    Thanks anyone!

I too have them in tiles view and also on auto arrange. Just tested moving one file into another position (So it is out of Name order) then quitting explorer and opening another - seemed to be fine.

Have you gone to control panels -> folder options -> and selected the "Remeber each folder's view settings" box? Thats the only thing i can think of. Oh, you say windows is re-arranging them for you, in what order, name? Type?

thanks jonathan - I've had another tinker around, & trying to remember what I originally did, was select the arrangement type (names, size &c) and if I then moved folders & files around out of order they'd stay that way - as you say.
I think I then also moved between views.. (tiles to thumbnails &c), & if you do that it does rearrange everything strictly to whichever arrangement you've selected. And same when you revert back to original view. Shouldn't matter too much as I will probably stick to tiles now I know that, but I don't know if you could hypothetically change views & not have everything re-arrange. I have already got my 'remember each folder's view settings' box checked thanks.

(I should have said originally 'the options offered by right-clicking on my documents page', rather than 'the options offered in Properties' as you probably gathered.)
