And some people hated XP, stuck with Win2k for ages and (inevitably) eventually accepted the change. It's your choice (nobody's forcing you) but, like it or not, DX10 will always be a Vista exclusive and so if you want it..
As to whether you actually need it yet? Probably not.
So there's always an upside
What's the point? DirectX 10 will slow your frame rates, melt your GPU, drink your coffee, make your sandwiches go stale and withdraw all your cash out of your bank account. Then it will insult your Gran, untidy your room and leave mud all over the kitchen floor.
There does not yet seem to be a lot of use for DX10 for the vast majority.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.
Amen to that.
I don't get this whole Vista hate thing. I hated XP when I first used it. I really genuinely hated it and only installed it on my PC at the time because Windows 98 SE ran so slowly. Vista is the same. You can use it and be pissed off with the fact that it doesn't look exactly the same as XP and your PC will run slower (well duh! It's doing more so it'll run slower) or you can realise that Vista is progress and in the end it's the best thing for you. Any implementation of DX10 in XP will always be a bodge job and the fact that XP64 is crap will mean that memory will be an issue for XP 32 DX10 haxx edition users.
XP has very little over 2k.
Virtually everything that runs on XP will run just as well on 2k, most with no modification.
The only reason I'm using XP is that I got a hold of a hacked copy that has even less crap on it than a 2k install. If I ever get around to editing 2k with n-lite, I'll go back to 2k.
I still use Win2K (when I have to use Windows)

What's so bad about XP x64? I must say I absolutely love it. I can see that there isn't much driver support and, sadly. there probably isn't going to be much more than there is currently, but I've found it extremely stable and all the software and hardware I use runs okay on it now.
