    Odd XP network problem?

    Hi All,
I have a couple of XP Pro workstations. They're now wired up by network cross over cable. One has an FTP server and a 400MB file on it.

When I ftp to the ftp server and pull the file across, a netstat -es shows Segments Retransmitted rocketting up. This does not appear to be causing a performance hit, but I've got a developer whining about it.

Anyone know what could be causing it, or how to fix it?

    Cheers...

You could fix it by telling the developer to shut up (or gag him!) if it isn't causing a performance hit!

It could be an MTU issue, or an iffy cable. Try changing the cable. Have use set up static IP addresses (I assume you are using TCP/IP as the transport protocol) or using the default ones?

Buy a cheap switch for, what about £8 these days and a pair of normal network cables, less than £20 all in.
