could not be saved because of unknown error?

I just got vista home premium x64 today and i've been trying to download the winamp plugin so that my g11 will work with winamp (the media keys) but i keep getting this message (it's for winamp.com and adobe.com that i've had this). Does anyone have any idea how to sort it out?

edit: found another site for the winamp plugin and it works, but adobe flash player gets the same error when i try to download it

    thanks

As you're trying to save to an area that should be writable (ie it's a profile location, not a system one) this is a little odd. Can you try to do the gubbins with an alternate browser? What antivirus are you running - could it be this?

Re: could not be saved because of unknown error?

i'm using kapersky 7 and comodo
I've tried going through properties>security>advanced>owner and changing it so that i have full control over the folder (i've changed the variable to C:\Temp) but still i get the same error after i've unchecked read only.
    Same thing with IE too

Just a thought - are you trying to run this executable from the link on the website, or are you saving it first? If the former then it could be getting tripped up while waiting for you to acknowledge the UAC prompt.

Re: could not be saved because of unknown error?

I don't get the save option.
When i try and download java i get directed to http ://javadl.sun.com/ webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=12797
which doesn't give me a chance

I've tried this microsoft support and i doesn't seem to be working either

edit: turning off uac doesn't work, and if i create a new folder it is by default set as read only and i cannot change it through properties/at all

think a reinstall might be in order? and what's a good, free firewall for vista?

Re: could not be saved because of unknown error?

no, i haven't. But i'll try that as soon as i get back home today and if that doesn't work i'l go for a reinstall and see if anything good comes out of that

edit: just tried it with ie and it seems to work fine
