LapTop folding on a Centrino Duo

Don't bother with this....it's a real low pointer.

I have a Centrino Duo (1.8gighz) with 2 gig ram. It's a Dell work PC.
I don't have access to admin rights/passwords and can't make the SMP core work, so I whacked normal folding on it.

I did that BEFORE CHRISTMAS when we were realy pushing.

I am still on my first unit, and it's switched on (with power lead) about 4 hours per day.

And it's only on 68%

Wont bother on this one anymore. Really not worthy.

What's the speedstep set to? Sometimes if its too low a priority and it is on powersaving/battery powered profile it wont ramp up the CPU. I've got to say my 2ghz Core Duo (Centrino Duo) with 2gb of RAM doesn't do that badly...

I have XP set to run the laptop as a PC, so there's no Power Saving when the PSU is plugged in (most of the time) so the CPU is at full 1.8gig all the time.

Zak - even though you will have set the windows power profiles it may not be running at full speed. I know when mine is sitting on my desk doing nothing, then it runs at 800mhz instead of 2ghz. It only ramps up when doing something demanding.

What I was suggesting is that perhaps FAH wasn't running at a high enough priority for it to do that, I don't remember how speedstep detects extra power is needed.

When I check in System Properties, since I changed the power settings, it always shows as a 1.8, were as it used to show as an 800mhz when doing nowt previously.

I shall dig in BIOS later.

Use CPU-Z to see the CPU speed change (or not, if the case may be )

OK...it is running at full CPU speed all the time, no doubt. CPU Z says so..

I've just changed the settings on the Folding icon (right click, configure, advanced) to Core Priority: Slightly Higher and it's helped a fair bit.

Will report back in a few hours, but that seems to have got it going properly.

I had a fantastic little app that sat in the taskbar and let you choose to run with speedstep or not... I can't remember what it's called though, all I can think of is "Speedstrip", but if I google that it's not quite what I was looking for! Anyone got any ideas?

nope....not sussed that yet!

Just have a directory structure like C:\fah\1 and 2 respectively, run and setup 1 and then run and setup 2 with a different machine id.

You then need to go into task manager and set which core they use (0 and 1 respectively) et voila, it will make use of both cores.

(edit - that post presupposes you didn't already know how to do it)
