    Office Ultimate 2007 - £38.95

I've bought a new laptop and currently waiting on it being delivered from Dell. Hopefully it will be here somewhere between now and the next three weeks! Anyway... There is an offer on for students with a .ac.uk email address. It allows us to get Office Ultimate 2007 for £38.95! I think that's a pretty good deal and I'm considering buy it. Do you think that's a good price? The only thing I was wondering is that 2008 could be coming out soon? Also, would I be able to install it on my computer and laptop?

    Cheers,
    Steven

office 2008 is only for Mac's (do MS intentionally keep them behind)

The reason its so cheap is because its for non-commercial use only (ie, been student).

One thing though, and I'm not sure on this, once you graduate, does the licence you agree to mean that you have to either delete Office or pay the full rate? It happens with AutoCAD (but that costs £'000s!), but I don't know if MS do the same thing. Probably just one thing to check.

I don't think so. The website is here: Microsoft presents The Ultimate Steal. It's the full version of Ultimate which includes nearly everything.

    Re: Office Ultimate 2007 - £38.95

The FAQ at the bottom of the page you posted says that its a perpetual licence, so it looks like a good deal imo.

I'm using Office 2000 and I don't think I'd ever need to upgrade, so I wouldn't necessarily worry about later versions of office coming out. It's probably worth getting if you don't have office already, but if you do, being a student I always found an extra £40 in my back pocket a bonus.

The FAQ section at the bottom of the page posted should answer all of your questions. It says that you are permitted to install one copy on one device and are allowed to install another copy on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device (longwinded or what!). I think it means yes, you can install it on your computer (licensed device) and your laptop (portable device).

It means you're buying it on trust and MS will be very very upset if they catch you misusing it.

I quite like using word. What do you use?

PS: Apparently it costs near £600 to buy it normally.

When I need to do serious Word Processing, I use Perfect Office X3 (the latest in the Wordperfect series) If I am doing anything that doesn't require that level of capability, I use Open Office, which meets about 95% of my needs. Word perfect scores on its paragraph numbering, document merging, reveal codes, publishing to pdf - to list but a few things.

I would use it for more than Word Processing. I use Access at college and the others would come in handy. I'll think about it, it's a good offer.

Openoffice is crap. It's not stable enough to use it day in day out.

    Re: Office Ultimate 2007 - £38.95

I was able to get Office 2007 Enterprise for about $35 American dollars. As far as I know, the difference between Ultimate and Enterprise isn't much, other than Enterprise is only available in bulk licenses, and one or the other may have an extra minor tool or two the other doesn't. I know I didn't install half the stuff that came with Enterprise. Mainly just Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc. You know, the basics, because you never know when you'll need 'em. I didn't need all the corporate stuff, and whatnot. lol But I can always instasll 'em later if I do.

lol Yup. Legitimately from the school. I got Vista Ultimate 32-bit for the same price. When I was a freshman CIS major, the university I was attending at the time gave us XP Pro, Win2000, and Visual Studio 6.0 for free because of our major. Even allowed to use it after I left (though I've since quit using them and got a new copy of XP for my current rig).
