What is the best Calendar solution?

I think it's time I made more of all this new-fangled web 2.0 stuff.

    I need a calendar solution. Here's what I want:

    • To be able to add things to my calendar on my phone (windows mobile), my desktop and my laptop
    • For all my calendars to be synced automatically
    • A desktop application in which all my calendars will be synced so I can use them offline. I've got Windows Calendar (Vista) and Outlook 2007 already, so they're possibilities
    • To be able to access my calendar online when I'm without any of my aforementioned devices
    • To be able to choose how to get reminders, I know some services do e-mail or SMS reminders

So, with that rather lengthy list of requirements, what should I be using?

Some of the services I've touched upon are Google Calendar and Remember the Milk, but what's the best combination? What do others use? Don't say a hard-back diary!

Re: What is the best Calendar solution?

I have been looking for soething smilar to use with evilution and Outlook - prefereably (in my case) running on a linux platform. Apart from Novell's groupwise, there isn't much there. Exchange is the almost defacto calendaring server, impracticle for home use and afaik, no web support.

I did find some tools, (I was looking for Linux based) but they didn't appear very fully featured.

Try a Google search on Caldav and Webdav, which are open source protocols for calendar shareing with web support.

Re: What is the best Calendar solution?

because of the windows mobile element, as far as i know its only exchange that works.

oh the joys of debate about proprietry protocols.

For my personal dealings, i use:
Cortado - Cortado for Windows Mobile – mailbox packages and premium services for Palm Treo 750v, MDA Vario II, MDA Compact II, VPA, XDA Neo und many other Pocket PCs, PDAs and smartphones

7 eruros a month isn't bad at all, and you have full push.

you also have the frankly market leading outlook web access interface.

if your also a cunning sly one, pay in USD, which because its not worth squat, means you can get a good package for £4.60 a month. From the service i've had, i think thats very fair.

should mention, Push means it goes straight to your mobile, like a txt message does.

this also works with the calander, however a friend of mine likes to abuse it, with about 12 invites simply stating 'pub' and the cross keys (which isn't my favourate pub....)

Outlook does it all for me, can sync between work/phone/home no worries.

    That looks very interesting Animus.

I am toying with the idea of building my own Win2K3 and exchange server (have the software as part of the Microsoft Action Pack). But if that doesn't work ut i'll definitely give those guys a proper look.

Google Calendar and GooSync looks really interesting but I've been using Outlook for too long now. Is it possible to sync Outlook Contacts and Calendar with a non-smart mobile phone? I'd really like a Windows Mobile smartphone but only use mobile on PAYG and can't justify the expense of a contract which would provide me with a free smartphone. Really all I want is to be able to sync my Outlook Contacts and Calendar

    Any ideas?

Surely 'Girls of Hollyoaks' is the only calendar solution you need...?

Re: What is the best Calendar solution?

I've noticed that Outlook 2007 has the ability to publish and subscribe to calendars, I wonder if I can use it in tandem with things like Google Calendar and Remember the Milk. I'm gonna give it all a go on the weekend and see what I can come up with.

Some very good suggestions in this thread, I'll have a play with some of them, thanks.

Goosync is great between Google calender and your phone but it's just getting that piece of software that will link outlook and Google calender.

    Anyone have any ideas?
