    PC Use Tracking

What kinda things are there out there that run in the background (no taskbar icon etc) that will track what websites are visited on a PC and what that PC does.

IE does that anyway - index.dat - and the logs track a lot of info - user logins etc if you have separate user accounts. Index.dat files are not directly readable, but a Google search will identify readers.

History will also identify sites visited, although the user can wipe those fairly easily.

Unless this is for home use, you may need to consider publishing policies on computer use before you start installing spyware.

    Re: PC Use Tracking

Is it just traffic (like email and web) or all activity? If the former, a proxy'd be a good idea, if the latter, I'd guess a good Keylooger'd be what you'd need; something like:

Keylogger: Family Keylogger - invisible keylogger.

Download Keylogger KGB. Free keystroke keylogger and keylogging software. Get free KGB keylogger

Keylogger: FREE Home Keylogger - invisible keystroke recorder. Put Yourself in Control! Home Keylogger

Or one of the hardware loggers like KeyGhost Keylogger - A hardware keylogger which captures all keystrokes to its internal memory chip. It is software free so it cannot be detected or disabled by software and installs in under 5 seconds!.

edit: peterb is correct on the policies thing. You CAN get away with monitoring people in the workplace, so long as you make it clear in your policies that you reserve the right to do that.
