    notepad++ but for linux

    Wotcha,

    I know it can be run using WINE but I'd rather not install it if at all possible. So I am wondering are there any alternatives out there that are very similar? I'm looking for PHP/MySQL syntax highlighting, the ability to indent and outdent (that a word?) sections and a tabbed view.

    Cheers! : )

    I've been using Kate until now, but for whatever reason, the cursor sometimes just disappears and I'm yet to solve that one. I've used Nvu on my work machine a fair bit, but i think it's overkill for what I really want (especially as I want to run it from my eeepc).

    Very versatile is vim! (and if you can 'speak' vim, you can 'speak' vi - and every linux distro has vi!) I'm sure you have read the vim man pages, but have another look and it tells you how to set tabs. (I have only ever used the default tab setting)

    I generally use Gedit or Geany, depending on what I'm doing.
