British Gas electric has just doubled in price. So be ware. It's still cheaper than daytime, but it's gone from 2.3 p per unit to 4.8 p per unit in Eastern Elect areas.

Basically I can drive a range rover, use as much electricity as I want, not bother sorting out my rubbish into recyclables right? Not to mention many many long haul flights and holidays.
Since they are taxing me into the next millennium, I assume that they are taking away my responsibilities, making it theirs and just charging me for it.

excatly.
It's like the piracy tax they added to blank recordable media in Canada.
I have a deeper arguement about these price rises.
But that's for another day![]()

I heard even those who convert their cars to use biodiesel have to work out how much they use and then just send the government a cheque 'this is for some fuel I used that I made without your help, but never mind - you have some cash'.

Nope, Gordon Brown removed the tax burdon on home grown and home made bio fuels.
So you can now legally buy oil from Tescos and turn it inot Bio diesel for your own private use
You can produce or use up to 2500Lt a year without paying duty. Its also possible to run diesel engines on veg oil without converting it in to biodiesel, but veg oil or biodiesel you still have the 2500Lt limit. Generally the veg oil will need to be mixed with diesel or pre heated in order to use it without conversion, also worth noting the price of veg oil has gone through the roof recently.
Home heating wise my parents still have solid fuel central heating (wood burning parkray) and an unlimited supply of wood that I help chop up and split.
Thanks Ed for the uplifting comment. It is good to know that somehow I could be of help although the thread is way old.![]()
