    syncronising outlook with access database

    Hi,

I'm looking for an easy (free!) way to syncronise contact details in an acces database with outlook contacts.

I know you can export from access and import into outlook easily, but is there anyway to keep both databases in sync so that a change in outlook would be refelcted in access and visa versa?

    any ideas greatfully appreciated!!

the only way i can imagine you can do it (tho this is probably rather overcomplicated) would be to write some VBA that allows you to read/write the Windows Address Book - cos AFAIK that is what OE uses for contacts...

there may be an easier way, but i have no idea!

Sounds to me like someone needs to look at a mailserver... synching contacts between Outlook clients and something like Access is causing me to lose sleep already, and I'm not even thinking about it.

If it's not too intrusive, can I ask what the Access database is to be used for? Reason being it MIGHT make sense to use something like the latest version of Outlook with Business Contact Manager; that uses an SQL 2005 database. Possibly you could use that SQL 2005 instead of Access? Either that or have Access lookup the data in the BCM database? Would that be an option?

Re: syncronising outlook with access database

The access database is used by myself and my collefuges to record club member details. I'm looking for a way to get this data into outlook for easy sending of emails and viewing of business cards etc, but also with a automatically recording any changes made to the database either in outlook or access.

I can use the 'link tables' option in access which automatically connects to outlook, but in typical ms style the fields do not match and you cant add any extra fields to make them match!

a mysql database sounds like a good option. i could easily link access to the my sql database i think..........

IMO This is the best answer, switch to MSSQL 2005 (you should easily be able to do this using the Express version available free from the microsoft site). Microsoft have been working a lot on their MS Dynamics range of softwares that offer lots of functionality like this.
