    Connection Speed Detection

I'm currently building a flash site, but since flash doesn't always work with 56k, I wondered if there is a way to detect a person's internet speed? I'm aware of browser detection, but will that do the same thing? I'm a newb at this stuff, so i'd appreciate your help, thanks

The best, and easiest way to do this would be. To make a site in flash, and (X)HTML and then on an intro page offer entrance to both.
