Given up on the SMPS client :(

I've given up on the FAH SMP client for now. Since I don't have my PC on the whole time I couldn't seem to complete a single WU and when I switched to WUs without time limits it couldn't seem to pick up a single one. And now, since I updated to the latest version its done nothing but throw up errors after a few hours on each unit.

    Bah.

Back to the vanilla version I guess.

Re: Given up on the SMPS client :(

Leaving out the problems that the client is having with your system (assuming its the one in your "my system") you should complete an SMP unit in ~24 hours probably a bit less you have 4 days to complete a unit so as long as your running it for 6 hours a day you should be completing units before they expire.

As to why the SMP client is messing up no idea I seem to be one of the lucky people that never has any problems with it.

Re: Given up on the SMPS client :(

It was taking just over an hour to complete 1%, so I was looking at a bit over 100 hours to complete a WU though it topped out at 70-80% when the time limit kicked in (yes, it is the same system as in My System).

Does anyone know how to run two copies of the standard console client in service mode? I can only seem to use the -local switch when I launch them from the Startup folder (or manually) but I'd rather have them running as services.

edit the client.cfg file to change the machineid, for each installed copy, at a guess

As I understood it, it only reads that info from the registry in service mode and only reads the local client.cfg if the -local switch is used, hence the problem. I may be completely wrong though!

Not that it matters much cos my system seems to just be too damn unstable at the moment to run anything other than a single client.

Re: Given up on the SMPS client :(

Set up a Linux partition and run it in that! I was running two instances of the client in uniprocessor mode and and one instance in SMP mode (although I'm waiting for the last uni-process to end to see if the SMP process speeds up significantly) Thats on a dual core Athlon - taking about 40 minutes to complete 1%.

I might just do that... it's bit a bit of a pain if I wanted to switch over and play a few games but worth it for just browsing or when I'm out...

Re: Given up on the SMPS client :(

Huzzah! I reinstalled the new beta client yesterday. After a few hours of no contact with the FAH servers I got my first new WU and it's folding a bit over four times as fast as before! Only 13 minutes per percent
