I know from two odd years personal experience dealing with Nod that that's misleading and crap. They've got the first two right though. Two out of three ain't bad for a mag I spose.

    Re: avg or avast?

I replaced AVG with Avast on my parent's old PC about a year ago. They were having trouble with it slowing down a lot and website popups but AVG insisted the machine had no infections. Avast quickly picked up a virus and I managed to remove it without having to reinstall the OS.

A company I used to work for also ditched Symantec AntiVirus in favour of Avast corporate edition and over the year I worked there noted a large drop in helpdesk calls which were attributed to virus infections. I trust Avast.

    Re: avg or avast?

personally I use Kaspersky Internet Security at home and now the corporate edition has been rolled out across the works systems as well after a trial over symantec.

I don't mind paying upto 20 Pounds a year for a retail/OEM package such as this as 20 pounds a year is nothing compared to the price of the system and also operating system and my time to fix and repair if anything goes wrong.

    Re: avg or avast?

I've used avast for a long time. It can seem a bit bloated with all the extras it tries to provide though. Apparently windows defender (or whatever it's called now) is pretty good now but doesn't have many extra features.

    Re: avg or avast?

I am using Avast for years too. I think they were the first free AV to have boot-time scans which can pickup and remove things before windows start. They also have this chrome based secure browser that has some useful adblock/site rating features.

I can't comment on its detection rate vs others e.g. AntiVir etc but its real-time network shield has picked up quite a bit.

    Re: avg or avast?

If you have to choose one of those two, Avast. However, I would recommend Bitdefender Total Security - you can pick it up for £20 for a year's subscription and 5 devices.

    Re: avg or avast?

If you have to pick one then I'd go for Avast but personally I would just go with Windows Defender for the free stuff or NOD32 for a paid option. Had good experiences with both

    Re: avg or avast?

I would say, go for Avast. In my opinion AVG is clearly the worst...

But if you can avoid using these two antivirus it's not worse

    Re: avg or avast?

This is quite a thread revival. Apart from the last few posts, it dates back to 2008.

I suspect the OP may have made up their mind by now.

    Re: avg or avast?

    Go for neither of them.
    Even better is MalwareBytes.
I have learned the lessons from the internet now so I don't click on suspicious links and hence am only secured by Windows Defender these days.

    Re: avg or avast?

If you know what you're doing on a PC you'll be fine just with Windows Defender, otherwise Avast is lightweight enough for a freebee
