Question My HD and DVD thinks its removable storage? (pics)

Hey everyone, get your noddels around this one I’ve never come across this issue before so im a bit stumped.

Basically, done a new build, fresh OS just gone on and I’ve noticed the 'Safely remove hardware' in the bottom right… no USB sticks in, so looked and my Hard drive (there’s only one currently in there) and my DVD drive are present, like I’ve plugged them into USB or something, picture bellow.

    PICTURE

I've not tried to remove them to see what happens but im guessing if i did it would remove it and be unusable for that session.

The bios settings look fine, im a bit lost for direction so this is a shout out for help, bellow is the PC components:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
PSU: Thermaltake ToughPower W0117 750W PSU
    GFX: XFX 8800GT Extreme 512MB
Mobo: EVGA nForce 680i SLI SKT775
RAM: OCZ 4GB PC2-6400 Reaper HPC
    HD: 320GB Hitachi Deskstar SATA2 16MB
SC: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-Express
    DVD: Lite-on DVD drive (Sata)

Someone said about it being Esata and I’ve plugged in the cable wrong, first build in 4 years so not 100% clear on the diff between Esata and Sata, i'm at work atm so cant check the cables till later.

Can anyone shed some light onto whats wrong, love you long time.

It has more to do with the controller being hotplug compatible as far as I can remember. You can just ignore it, its part of the SATA spec and nothing to worry about.

you wont be able to eject the hard drive because windows using it. It's all quite normal as dave87 says.

Re: My HD and DVD thinks its removable storage? (pics)

That'll be because the controller in your old pc wasn't hot plug'n'play compatible.

Its a fair enough assumption if you haven't built a PC in a while, so don't worry...be happy

I think it's also related to the Nvidia chipset drivers. When you installed them, you'll have installed the IDE drivers which do funny things like this. There was another post about it recently I seem to recall.

ICH8(R) (and presumably 9 too) is hot-swap compatible, but it doesn't show this, somewhat annoyingly in my opinion, as I'm constantly swapping out hard drives. I guess it's got more to do with whether the driver developers want it to appear as hot-swappable or not.

is your bios set to ide-compatible mode, or real proper sata (ahci) mode?

Always been AHCI. I presumed I'm wasn't the only one and this was an ICHx thing rather than an ASUS one though? Have I presumed wrongly? Are others on the ICHes getting the safely remove feature for their SATA hard drives?
