    Explorer disappearance in Vista

    Hello

Fairly often, if I open My Documents or My Computer the screen goes to background, as in all icons and taskbar disappear and after 20-30 seconds it slowly comes back, but with out the explorer window.

Worse case is when that happens and I don't get my taskbar or icons back! I have to ctrl-alt-del to reboot

any ideas whats up with that?

Vista Basic on HP laptop, celeron 830, 80gb, 512mb ram (i know)

Sounds like explorer.exe is bombing out to me. Anything of note in the event log?

it looks like there a program error have you tried to disable your AV and then try to access my computer and if it does disapear again try to access task manager and click on new task and type explorer.exe and your explorer should come up.
    I classify my self insane

Why would disabling the AV do anything? Most antiviruses continue to run even if you turn the antivirus engine off.

I'm still waiting for something from the event log, personally.

    Re: Explorer disappearance in Vista

I've had a look (I think it was the right section) but it seemed Vista reported it and has no current fix. Boo.

Well I've stopped trying to access files using explorer, instead whatever program is open I'll go into that. It's a bit long.

Any little explorer type programs out there?
