    HTML and server issues

    I got free hosting

It's only to host my portfolio and a little bit about me when I apply to companies instead of sending a chuffing huge ZIP file.

Now the site is Index of / BUT I can't get it to load the index page, where does it need to go?

    It goes www/domain name/stuff
that I have it in the hosting, but it wont load properly on the index page

anyone got any help/guides on how to do it/where to put it? (I dont do servers lol)

    Re: HTML and server issues

your index page should be in that directory...

needs to be named index.html or possibly index.htm

Where've you tried putting it already?

    Re: HTML and server issues

I can't see a file called index.html in that root folder...

Should be in the root of www/domainname/index.htm

ditto, can't see the file - appending the address bar with index.html/htm gives a 404 - so its not there for sure!

    Re: HTML and server issues

what folders do you get when you log into the FTP?

My host has several that I can't remember, but there is both a 'www' and a 'public_html', the later is the actual website. I can't remember what the 'www' folder is for.

    Re: HTML and server issues

well default.htm shows more of it than the index.html does, still doesn't work properly

tiggerai, i moved it into that folder now, doesn't seem to like loading the images like the backround title bar or the header though

    Re: HTML and server issues

Right well if you give it a shot now it SHOULD be working, no internet browser seems to load it for me, yet for a friend it loads fine apparently

Might be something on my pc/router, no idea what though

    Yeah, it loads now.

Your browsers might me loading a cached copy, which will be the directory listing, try a forced refresh (Ctrl+F5 )
