    Vista service packs ??

    Hello there,
as you may have realised i have ordered my new computer and have specified windows vista 64-bit edition, i was just wondering what service pack to run it under (if its possible???) as i want it to be as fast as possible. The reason for not going with xp as i thought with a new machine a new style would be needed so i thought i would go to the nice one.
    Thanks,
    Lee

    Re: Vista service packs ??

As of right now, there are no publicly available service packs for Vista.

Vista SP1 has been released to manufacturers and large corporate customers, it is due to become public in the next couple of weeks. You can find it on various P2P services, but to be honest, I'd wait until it is officially released.

It will be available as a direct download from MS first and the rolled out via Windows Update after.

Have a look around the forums, there are several threads on SP1, as well as a couple of new articles on the main site and on the Channel site.

    Re: Vista service packs ??

From what I read some SP1 dissables some drivers, but re-installing them once the SP1 install in complete fixes them.

    Re: Vista service packs ??

It's out on MSDN now too (both ISO and EXE) but you may need to be a subscriber to download it (I already am).

If you want it now you can get it through windows update by following this: http://forums.hexus.net/operating-sy...right-now.html

    Both are from MS directly

I repeat "now" I've just downloaded the x86/x64 builds along with the DVD.

It's a personal decision - if you've file copy problems then perhaps it is. As long as you've got backups there's not that much to worry about

Tempted to wipe and re-install Vista to remove some of the Asus crap that was on it from the factory.
