    Question Locking my work station...

    Hello,

I am running WinXP Pro, i have it setup so it boots to windows and loads all my programs

I have no passwords on bootup and no login screens, just loads straight to my account (mines the only account on the PC) and loads my programs in startup

Is there anyway to lock/password protect the system so when i leave it know one can alter it ?

I dont really wanna use a screen saver with a password.

Is there anyway to lock it without having a password on bootup ?

Wanna do this so i can lock it so no one can alter it so all my back ground programs carry on working.

    Cheers

you could give this a try

control panel - scheduled tasks - add scheduled task

in the run field on your new task, add this lot

    C:\WINNT\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

click the schedule tab at the top of the dialog box & under schedule task, change to "when idle" and specify a time (eg, 5 mins)

this should lock your workstation when idle & require a password to get back in, although i dunno how it'll react together with the automatic login - i'm unsure whether the auto login will just affect the login process or will affect all instances where a password should be required
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is

just use 'windows key'+'L' and it will lock the computer requiring a password to be entered when you want to use it again.

    Sorted it

Downloaded a programs called TweakUI, set that to auto log on with a password.

Then in startup add a short cut to lock system
