Disable/permanently set Autoplay? Want it to always "Open Folder in New Window"
On XP, is there a way to set a rule so that all storage devices are automatically set to "Open Folder in New Window" option on Autoplay?
I dont use any other option on that little pop-up, so it wastes my time everytime, unless i go through the hassle of setting that option for all 4 file types in the autoplay settings for each drive separately which is a pain.

it's easy on vista & linux, but i don't kno9w of an easy xp method

well, i guess the next best option for me is to disable autoplay altogether, do you know if that can be done?

To customise autoplay settings in XP;
-open 'My Computer'
-right-click the drive you wish to customise (I think this will work if you have a usb drive plugged in)
-select 'Properties'
-then 'Autoplay'
-make your choice.
edit;
It does work with a usb thumbdrive plugged in, if you have multiple drives and want to be able to more than one at a time, you will have to plug them all in the available usb ports to assigne a course of action to be associated with that port/drive letter and follow the above steps for each.
Hope this helps.

I thought autoplay was effected by the drive letter i.e. if your usb had the drive letter e assigned to it, any device inserted to that port had the same rules applied to it. I have several drives that I plug into just 1 or 2 ports and am never asked what action to take after I applied the rules in my previous post to those drive letters. Maybe, I'm just lucky (and for me, that's just not normal).

With mine you have to set the settings for every device and port combination, which is ok if you only had to do it once and never again, but it seems to forget these configurations every few weeks etc
